June was... an interesting month. I feel like it was more productive than May due to the new project I started (more on that later)!

Here's what I had achieved in June:

  • Started Summer Camp prep

  • Wrote lore for magic in Ysteria and Mytharae and flying islands in Mytharae

  • Made progress with my visual novel, "Audio Call"

  • Started work on a visual novel series about some characters in Auxul

  • Wrote an entry for Summer Camp

Let's go through each of these achievements!

Summer Camp Prep & Plans for Summer Camp

Started Summer Camp prep

Some of you may be asking, "What is Summer Camp?" 🤔 Let me tell you!

Summer Camp is one of World Anvil's two major annual events (along with WorldEmber) that occurs every July. ⛺ It is a four-week long, prompt-based event where a "wave" of ten prompts is announced and released every week. This year will have 40 prompts in total (methinks). You can read more about the event here!

Before every Summer Camp in June is Summer Camp Prep, a period where we, of course, prep, plan, and create goals for the event! Every week, we get a new piece of "homework" to do (this is the only kind of homework that's actually fun 😂)

This time, however, I chose not to do the homework because I just wasn't feeling it and didn't want to force it. 😔

As for my SC plans, I decided to pledge Copper (i.e answer 8 prompts) like last year, but I won't promise myself to manage all eight. I'm just gonna take it slow this year in hopes I don't end up suffering from burnout like last year. 🙂

Magic & Flying Islands

Wrote lore for magic in Ysteria and Mytharae, and flying islands in Mytharae

Magic and magic systems in worldbuilding are something I struggle with. 😅 How do I make an interesting magic system that doesn't just default to elemental magic?? 🤣 One day, I thought, "Y'know what? Let's at least try to define what magic is in Ysteria."

So I began writing. Then one thing led to another and then... at this point, I'll just show y'all the Discord messages. 😂

All this speculation soon led to this:

From the knowledge gathered from decades of experimentation, observations, and studies, magic can be defined as a defence mechanism created by one's life-force. It is triggered when one is exposed to either a strange energy—one with the ability to create, mutate, and destroy—or extreme stimuli. The stronger the triggering factor, the stronger the defence mechanism. And the stronger the mutation and amplification or one's life-force. The creation of magic can be represented in the following equations:
Extreme stimuli + life-force = magic (mainly used for tangible magics like Body and, to an extent, Heart Magics)
Strange, unknown energy + life-force = magic (used or more intangible magics like Mind and Soul Magics)

There's a lot more info about Ysteria's magic, but that'll likely be its own post.

Figuring out magic in Mytharae was went a bit differently: the idea struck in the middle in the night! 😂 This was the result:

Magic is a gift bestowed upon mortals by their deities to strengthen their bond and make communication easier. It is also known as a "god-gift." One can either be born with the gift or earn it by proving themselves to their deity of choice, and how one's god-gift manifests depends on how they interpret the deity and their domain(s). The strength of god-gift was greatly dampened following the Deep Sleep, and hasn't fully recovered.

I figured I'd like to play around with more abstract magic, so I'm curious to see where developing Mytharae's magic takes me. 😛

Finally, a World Anvil prompt sparked the idea for flying islands in Mytharae! Here's a snippet of lore:

A cluster of flying islands exists in both Myrtha and Kharae, gracefully journeying through their realms. Remarkably, they touch down precisely at the end of each year in the very locations from which they ascended. As a result, they are frequently utilized to celebrate the New Year. The origins of these landmasses remain a mystery. Scholars speculate that they were lifted from the earth during the Deep Sleep by the deities of the sky. However, the reasons behind this creation remain unknown. Some believe it was a demonstration of power during The Great Clashing, while others think it was an act of compassion to provide sanctuary for the defenseless, asleep mortals. Regardless of their origins, these landmasses have since become a vital part of cultural celebrations, symbolizing hope and renewal as each new year dawns.

Again, more will be placed in its own post, buuuut I will say this: there's some secrecy and illegal activities going on in these places. 👀

Visual Novel Projects!

Made progress with my visual novel, "Audio Call"

After seeing some discussions about visual novels in a Discord art server I'm in, I decided to try it out for myself! It blends writing and art (both of which I'm pretty good at), so this should be easy and fun! 😃

Long story short, it is. 😊

I decided to start small and adapt a short story I wrote in 2024 titled "Audio Call," a simple story about a college student checking on her younger siblings, who are frustrated with their home life.

I'm super happy with how it's coming along! 🙌

I post regular updates on Bluesky and GameJolt, and post special updates on Ko-Fi! ✨

Then some time later, I was violently possessed by the idea of making a full VN series with some OCs of mine, which led to the basics of a script being written (help).

Future updates will be shared soon. 😉

Summer Camp Articles

I managed to put out an article soon after Summer Camp launched on June 29th. It answers the prompt, "A charity dedicated to helping those in need."

[The Supporters of Hantengo Victims] are a humanitarian organization dedicated to helping the citizens of and refugees from the crime-ridden Hantengo Sector. This is a greatly challenging feat because of a number of obstacles: hostility from Hantengo's crime lords, threats of and outright acts of violence against the workers as well as innocent civilians, and the rows of heavy weaponry surrounding the sector. Despite these setbacks, the Supporters of Hantengo Victims successfully rescued and supported hundreds of people from the sector over the years and earned worldwide respect and admiration.

I'll soon make a separate blog post showcasing the ideas I have and articles written for the prompts. 😁

Closing + Plans for July

Other than participating in Summer Camp, another goal for July is to work on this blog! I've been meaning to do this for a while, and I'm fully prepared to dive into this. 😄

How has June gone for you? What are your plans for July? Let me know in the comments!

Take care and have a good one 💛
